Ft Lauderdale, FL -
Kimberly Kamish, our 2008-2009 Miss
Belize California winner, joined fellow
Belizeans in Florida for the Caribbean
festivities.
Louis Reyes, Founder and Director of the
Miss Belize California Beauty Pageant (who also
serves as a board member for the
Belizean Cultural Foundation), accompanied
Kamish to Florida where they stayed at the chic
and ultra luxurious Bahia Mar Beach Resort in
Fort Lauderdale. With an ocean front view and a
plethora of stylish shops lining the coast,
Kamish was ready for some fun in the sun.
Kamish's weekend kicked off with a dinner and
dance, hosted and sponsored by the
Belize
Association of Florida. The affair was held
Saturday night at the Mahi Temple in Miami where
Sir Colville Norbert Young, the Governor
General of Belize, was the guest of honor. "It
was such an honor to be in the presence of a man
so respectable and noble," said Kamish. "He
was so gracious, yet humble." After dinner,
Kamish joined the rest of the party where she
danced to the live tunes played by the Youth
Connection Band from Orange Walk, Belize and
showed off some of her best punta and soca
moves. "I think I probably had to be the
youngest person at the party, yet the partygoers
were giving me a run for my money. Belizean's
can party and dance all night long. I knew I had
another long day ahead of me and after taking a
few pictures, I graciously bowed out for the
evening."
The
Broward Caribbean Carnival was held on Sunday,
October 12th at Central Broward Regional Park in
Fort Lauderdale. The carnival was encumbered
with culture, exotic cuisines, costumes and
Caribbean tradition. "The food was the best I
have ever tasted," said Kamish. "However,
the parade was by far the best part of the
carnival. I was even invited to ride in a
convertible where I also invited Sarah, Miss
USA Mastana 2008 to accompany me. The
invitation to join the parade was totally
unexpected and turned out to be the highlight of
my trip."
When asked the question "So how would rate
your experience in
Florida and your overall experience so far as
Miss Belize California 2008-2009?" Kamish
replied, "Ray Gongora and the Belizean
Association of Florida took great care of me and
my guests. Floridians really know how to make a
girl feel welcome. This has been one of the best
experiences of my life. I only wish my reign as
Miss Belize California would never end." |
