INTERVIEW NOTES
I.
Prior to Interview Preparation
- Know your Fact
Sheet inside and out
- Keep up with
current events in Belize, California, the US, and the
World
- Have an opinion
on issues
- Have facts to
share/stories to tell about your platform
- Practice making
a point in your answers
- Practice
answering questions in 15 seconds or less
- Dress for a job
interview; keep jewelry and makeup to a minimum
- Don't try new
things a few days before the interview (ie. new haircut/style, etc.)
II. During
Interview
- Arrive early and
relax
- Smile and let
your own unique personality come out
- Look directly at
the judges
- Make a point in
your answers; don't ramble or jump from topic to topic; listen
carefully to the question asked and answer with the question.
- State your
opinion and stick with it
- Ask for
clarification if you need it on a question
- Keep tabs on
your hand/arm gestures and posture
- Remain either
behind the podium or to either side of the podium; do not move to in
front of the podium or in front of the judges table during your
interview
- Have something
ready to talk about for the final 45 seconds of your interview
- Thank the judges
at the conclusion of your interview but do not shake their hands
under any circumstances
III. Interview
Follow-up
- Write down your
questions and review your answers
- Grade yourself
on how well you think you did
- Mentally prepare
yourself for your on-stage questions during Evening Wear competition
later that night.
